The December Challenge

For some people, December is a month of joy. For others, it’s not.

What if we spent the month of December intentionally bringing just a little more light to the world?

12/1 - Message a friend you haven’t seen in a while and tell them the impact they made in your life.

12/2 - Leave a gift/snacks in your mailbox for your mail carrier. This season is crazy for them!

12/3 - Provide gifts for families facing economic hardships: bridge.tv/giftmarket

12/4 - Bring some stray shopping carts inside.

12/5 - Call a loved one. Don't text. Don't email. Call.

12/6 - Send a Grub Hub/Door Dash/Uber Eats to someone you know is having a long day.

12/7 - Serve or donate to a local rescue mission.

12/8 - Donate to: timothysministry.org

12/9 - Anonymously send a dessert to someone.

12/10 - Leave change in a vending machine.

12/11 - Leave an amazing Yelp review.

12/12 - Drop off food at an animal shelter.

12/13 - Make/send a card to a kid in the hospital: cardsforhospitalizedkids.com

12/14 - Leave/send flowers to a hospital or nursing home to be passed out.

12/15 - Send a thank-you to a police/fire station.

12/16 - Invite some friends out to a “cell phone free” meal. Leave a massive tip.

12/17 - Post something online praising someone else.

12/18 - Invite someone to your table.

12/19 - Leave quarters at a laundromat.

12/20 - Help pay off lunch debt: allforlunch.org

12/21 - Show some love on Blue Christmas: nationaltoday.com/blue-christmas-service

12/22 – Leave an encouraging note somewhere.

12/23 - Go to a parking lot and leave a kind note on someone’s windshield. They’re probably stressed.

12/24 - Pay for the car behind you.

12/25 - Mail a handwritten card to a

loved one.

12/26 - Donate: nationaldiaperbanknetwork.org.

12/27 - Support a classroom: donorschoose.org.

12/28 - Write letters to strangers who need them: moreloveletters.com.

12/29 - Leave a tray of treats at a hospital.

12/30 - Spend some time on freerice.com.

12/31 - Donate books to kids: kidsneedtoread.org

If you're at all like me, sometimes all it takes is an idea, a structure, or invitation to step out and try something a little different.

My advice: Worry less about making sure you follow this list to a "T" and focus more on simply finding small ways to show love and kindness every day.

Save this post, print it off, tag someone in the comments, make it your desktop background, send it to a friend, or make it your phone wallpaper. Find others to do this with. Mix and match however you see fit.

If Christmas is truly about the incarnation, about "God with us", then maybe it’s worth us trying live out in our daily lives.

Let’s not just celebrate Christmas.

Let’s embody it.

“You are the light of the world.” — Jesus

(Matthew 5:14)

(If you take a photo of any of these, pleas tag me. I’d love to see them.)
